VISITORS to Newport’s Food Festival on October 6 will be able to pick up top tips from some of the country’s leading culinary experts.

Chef demos were a popular part of last year’s inaugural festival and there will be another great line-up this year.

Bryn Williams has worked with Marco Pierre White and Michel Roux Junior and cooked for the Queen’s birthday breakfast after winning the first series of The Great British Menu.

Bryn is chef patron of Odette’s in London and is a television regular with his own series on S4C, Cegin Bryn (Bryn’s Kitchen).

James Sommerin, from Caerleon, will be making a return appearance.

He is executive head chef at The Crown at Whitebrook, which was named AA restaurant of the year in 2011-12, and is the proud holder of a coveted Michelin star.

Hywel Jones, is executive chef at the Michelin-starred Lucknam Park while Anand George is founder of the Welsh Curry House of the Year, the Purple Poppadom and award-winning Kate Jenkins is renowned for her Gower Cottage brownies and is also a member of the ITV’s Countrywise kitchen team.

Antonio Smith is the founder of The Backyard Company, the festival’s main sponsor, which produces delicious sauces based on his great grandmother’s traditional Jamaican recipes.

A new feature this year will be masterclasses for small groups of 20 people. Newport-born Hywel Jones, a Great British Menu winner, Anand George, Norman Musa and Tim McDougall, of Terry M at the Celtic Manor will be sharing their expertise.

Tickets cost £5, including a complimentary drink, and need to be booked in advance through The Riverfront box office. Get in early to avoid disappointment.

As well as the chef demos and masterclasses, there will be stalls offering food to buy and taste, entertainment and the final of the Teenchef competition.
