A DOCTOR who is currently working on improvement and innovation projects for the NHS in Gwent, has been awarded an OBE.

Dr Alan Willson, a former director of Wales' 1,000 Lives improvement programme, is currently part of the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board ABCi team, which supports staff to deliver improvements in healthcare across Gwent.

"I am both surprised and extremely honoured to receive this award. It is a recognition of the wonderful achievements of the patients and staff of NHS Wales," he said.

"It also gives me an opportunity to pay tribute to the world class team of colleagues who will go on to achieve more and better changes for the people of Wales.”

Dr Willson qualified as a pharmacist and worked in senior pharmacy and management in London before coming to Wales.

He has been involved with the National Leadership and Innovation Agency in Wales, and is a fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
