A BINGO company are calling on residents from across Cwmbran to nominate the work of unpaid carers.

The team at Mecca Bingo, in Monmouth Walk, hopes to raise awareness and money for the Carers Trust as the clocks go back on Sunday, October 30.

While most of the UK will be looking forward to an extra hour in bed, the team at Mecca Cwmbran will be using the additional time to help support unpaid carers.

The partnership between the charity and the Rank Group, which owns Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor Casinos, began in February 2014 and has seen Cwmbran employees host several fundraisers.

Money raised from the ‘hour of support’ — ranging from gardening, decorating to DIY to dusting — will go towards the Carers Trust, which supports over seven million unpaid carers in the UK.

Mecca Cwmbran club manager, Monika Borska-Ulatowska, said: “At Mecca Cwmbran we all know the feeling that there isn’t enough time in the day and unpaid carers probably feel this more often than the average person so it’s nice to do something for them.

“That’s why we plan to make life that little bit easier for carers across the UK by using the extra hour when the clocks go back to do something charitable.”

CEO of Carers Trust, Gail Scott-Spicer, added: “We’re delighted that employees at Mecca Cwmbran are dedicating the extra hour to unpaid carers.

“The awareness and money employees and customers raise will help Carers Trust to support thousands of unpaid carers through its grants funds.

“This gives carers the equipment and skills they need to carry out their caring roles, whilst also ensuring that their own health and wellbeing are looked after.”

To nominate a unpaid carer answer the following questions; what town/city does the carer live in, who does the carer provide care to and what do they do for this person / people and what task do they need help with.

Applicants must also complete this sentence: “This carer deserves an extra hour of time courtesy of Mecca Bingo because...’.

The applicant must also confirm that the person who is nominated is not paid for the care they provide and responses should be emailed to meccacareoclock@havas.com by Saturday, October 29.
