A BLAENAVON tree services company raised more than £100 for the Firefighters charity at a Christmas tree recycling event.

Lee Symes Tree Services raised £107 at the event, held in a public car park opposite the Rifleman’s Arms in Blaenavon.

The event was also attended by Blaenavon’s fire engine.

Lee Symes said: “It’s the first time that I have tried something like this.

“I have worked on call at Blaenavon Fire Station for 19 years.

“I decided to give it a go at the end of last year when we were starting to think about our 2019 fundraising.

“Christmas trees are quite hard to get rid of, so I decided to use my tools from my tree services business to raise some money for charity."

Mr Symes added: “The fire crew helped me out - I think we recycled about 20 trees in the four hours that we were there.

“We raised just over £100, it’s not a huge amount but every little helps.

“I think we will do the same thing next year as well, but really try and push it and raise even more money for the charity.”

The Firefighters charity offers support to members of the fire service who have been injured, are ill, or are in need of psychological support.
