AN 84-YEAR-old man from Abergavenny has appeared before magistrates in Nottinghamshire, charged with committing historic sexual offences.

Nigel Pipe, 84, of Llanwenarth View, Govilon, appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court on Friday, February 1.

He is alleged to have committed the sexual offences against five boys while working at a children's home in the ’60s.

Mr Pipe has been charged with four counts of seriously sexually assaulting a boy aged under 16, 14 counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 16, and nine counts of inciting a boy under the age of 14 to commit an act of gross indecency.

Mr Pipe is alleged to have committed the offences when he was a housemaster at Skegby Hall, in Mansfield Road, Sutton in Ashfield, between 1965 and 1969.

The children's home, now closed, was managed by Nottinghamshire County Council.

He is set to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on March 1.
