THE former club of the rugby league player who was found in a lane with life-changing injuries is set to help with the launch of a charity magazine to raise money for his family.

Scott Bessant was a player and coach at Torfaen Tigers before the incident which left him with multiple fractures to his skull, a fractured neck, 12 fractures to his back, a fractured pelvis, a bleed on the brain, a broken collarbone and broken ribs and damage to the diaphragm.

Ian Golden, communications and profile manager for Wales Rugby League, is producing ‘100 Months of Rugby League in Wales’ to raise money for ‘Scott’s Angels’ and the ‘Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund’.

On Saturday, May 4, the magazine will be on sale at New Panteg RFC, the new home of Torfaen Tigers RLFC as they take on Swindon St George in their first home match of the new Southern Conference League season.

This is in addition to the official launch at the Welsh Charitables RFC dinner on Friday, May 3 at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff, as announced last week.

Torfaen chairman Matt Cummins said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the Welsh club launch of ‘100 Months of Rugby League in Wales’.

“Scott was and still is a big part of Torfaen Tigers and we’re delighted to be honouring him in this way.

“We continue to support his recovery and we’ll do whatever we can to help his family.”

Mr Bessant’s sister Sian Chere said: “We as a family are doing everything we can to one day bring our Scotty home.

“Since this horrific night of August 13, 2017, our parents have been at our Scotty’s bedside every day.

“As the saying goes, ‘Where there is life there is hope’ and that’s what we truly believe, that our Scotty is still here for a reason – he’s a true warrior,” she said.

“We are truly Blessed to be surrounded by so much love and support from our community of Torfaen.

“Very soon we’ll be able to buy the vehicle our Scotty so desperately needs.

“So from the bottom of our hearts, the Bessant family thank you for your continued support.”

Supporters can pre-order the publication and request to pick up in either Torfaen, Cardiff, or Halifax.
