TRAVELLERS have established a presence in the car park of the former Barry Waitrose site.
A four-strong contingent of vehicles was reported outside the store, off Palmerston Road, on Monday, July 8.
The Barry Waitrose store closed on Sunday, June 9 this year.
The site has been acquired by Anlo Properties LLP and the new owners have submitted a planning application to the Vale of Glamorgan Council for new store entrances and related elevational changes associated with the sub-division of the property into two new stores.
Home Bargains and The Food Warehouse (Iceland) have been confirmed as the next retail occupants.
Vale council cabinet member for housing and building services, Cllr Margaret Wilkinson said: “The council is aware that travellers have entered the car park at the former Waitrose site.
“A welfare assessment has been undertaken and it is for the landowner to take any further action.”
Anlo Properties LLP were unavailable for comment.
