IF I may respond to the leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Greenhalgh's comment about voting for B Johnson, 6 July.

Cllr Greenhalgh says "I accept it's a roll of the dice. With Boris there is always an element of risk but I believe it's a risk worth taking."

Johnson supporters put forward his time as mayor of London as somehow proof that he 'can deliver'. It is worth looking at his so-called success.

The 2012 London Olympics are often put forward as as an example of his leadership ability. The Olympics were run by a government department the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), with chairman Sir John Armitt.

The mayor of London, Boris Johnson had no executive role whatsoever. Directly after the games, Johnson personally intervened to make himself chair of the London Legacy Development Corporation and decided to spend £100s millions to make the Olympic Stadium suitable for football.

West Ham United FC now play there.

The owners of West Ham are Tory donors and their vice chair is Karren Brady, Baroness Brady of Knightsbridge, a Tory peer. The deal is one that no one, apart from West Ham's owners would consider to be anything but terrible.

Johnson's main boast about his mayoralty is the fall in crime in the capital. True, but at the time crime was falling across the country and also under his predecessor. What must not be overlooked during his time as London mayor, is the non-existent £50 miilion garden bridge and the £300,000 unusable water cannons.

I say all this not from any political party point of view, I myself have stood as Independent in Bolton council elections, but to try to introduce some balance to the debate. I personally think that a Prime Minister Johnson would be a disaster for the country and for the leader of Bolton Council to vote for him (as a Tory member) saying "It's a roll of the dice, there is always an element of risk with Boris" is bonkers.
