YESTERDAY was National Play Day and to celebrate a fun-filled day was staged in Victoria Square to bring families outside to enjoy free fun activities.

A whole variety of games to emphasise children’s right to play lined the town centre square organised by Play and Youth Bolton.

They included football darts, where adults and children alike aimed to score a bullseye with Velcro footballs, the popular sport of Bubble Football, which is football but with each player enclosed in inflatable bubbles, and large versions of Snakes and Ladders and Draughts.Executive cabinet member for children’s services,

Cllr Christine Wild, said: “Bolton Play Day was a huge success and despite a few spells of rain, nothing could dampen the spirits for this brilliant event. Play day is one of the highlights of our Summer Fun programme and young people the chance to learn new skills.”

The central dance arena highlighted the talent of young people with children singing and dancing to various songs and classical musical. Cllr Wild added: “A big thank you must go to our partners who helped to make this event a success.”A full programme of activities will be held up to August 24 to entertain families and children on their summer holidays.
