BURNDEN travelled in numbers to the Lowther Show trail run consisting of 1,400 feet of ascent within a 13-mile course and Jonathan Sangster led the club home in a time of 1hr 45mins 44secs.

There were also notable category successes for Phil Glassbrook (first V70), Andy Dunleavy (second V60), K Thomas (second V60) and in the ladies' race, Gwen Kinloch (second V50), Anne Ferguson (second V60) and Lyndsay Darbyshire (third V50).

In a busy week all round for the club, they also broke the record for most volunteers at last weekend's Bolton parkrun, while taking part in a 'takeover day' on another successful day for Burnden Road Runners and its members.

Midweek saw numerous races being held, starting with the Ramsbottom Summer Mile, which is part of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix of which Burnden are the holders of all four categories from 2018.

This year's Astley Park series in Chorley came to an end, with series successes for Gwen Kinloch (first V50), Lyndsay Darbyshire (second V50) and Anne Ferguson (first V60).

Pete Hopley (24:28), Steven Bate (27:03) and Andy Warburton (28:43) all ran the last race of the series with Bate and Warburton also completing the series.

Next up was the Ice lolly Challenge series held on and around the Smithills estate.

A tough and hilly 5k course brought out the best in Mark Jackson, who finished second overall in a time of 22:51.

The next Burnden runner home was Andy Dunleavy, continuing his good recent form form and claiming first V60 in a time of 24:11.

Other finishers were R Blake in 31:58, J Forkin in 41:21 and C Dunleavy in 41:25.

Mel Walker completed the Sale Sizzler 5k series, renowned as one of the quickest courses in the region, and finished the series as second V75 in a time of 25:32.

Joining Walker on the night were men's team captain, Lee White (18:29), and Francis Mackin (24:58).
