CATHY Stratton and Kathryn Orrell led home a four-strong Lostock team at the Manley Mere triathlon in Cheshire last Sunday.

Racing over the sprint distance format of an open water 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run, in treacherous road conditions that saw two unpleasant crashes on the bike leg, Stratton posted an overall time of 1hr 34mins 35secs to finish 10th woman overall and third in her age category.

Orrell, in her first competitive triathlon since the 2016 Ironman, came in as 17th woman and fourth in age group in 1:37:42.

Alan Mather finished in 1:45:32 and Karen Taylor completed the Lostock quartet in 1:53:57.

Meanwhile, Hazel Hatfield demonstrated her continuing development as a runner by finishing ninth woman and third in her age group at the Leigh Community 10k with an impressive time of 45:55 – knocking six minutes off her 2018 time.

James Jackson continued to show good form at the Howler Trial Summer half marathon, starting in Ramsbottom and heading over Holcombe Moor and Pilgrim's Cross, finishing the 15-mile race in 3:07:40 to finish 23rd.

Mike Ernill and Kerry Varden had also visited Pilgrim's Cross the previous week on the fell race of the same name, finishing in 1:08:24 and 1:18:25 respectively.
