THE Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will be offering regular Cake Concerts in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole from September until May.

The afternoon concerts which start on Friday, September 13, combine classical repertoire with tea, cake and light chatter and are designed for people living with dementia.

Guests can enjoy tea, coffee and cake in a friendly, relaxed setting where they will be serenaded by BSO musicians. The BSO’s Teatime Trio, consisting of flute, harp and cello, perform a selection of well-known and relaxing favourites from the Baroque period to the present day.

A BSO spokesman said: “Working closely with Alzheimer’s Society, the BSO has designed the Cake Concerts specifically to cater to the needs of those living with dementia, as well as their families, friends and carers.

“These events have a profound effect on movement and communication amongst audience members, creating a positive shared experience for all who attend.

“Over the last few years, the BSO has embedded working with people living with dementia at the heart of its practice. This work was recognised by the Alzheimer’s Society who awarded the Orchestra Dementia Friendly Organisation of the Year in November 2017.”

*Adult tickets are £5 (including refreshment) and are available at bsolive.com. Some tickets will also be available on the door.
