THE Memo Arts Centre, in Barry, is inviting men and women aged 60+ to join a new exciting intergenerational dance and mindfulness project called Mixer.

The exploratory project works with children and older people, using the arts to celebrate shared social and cultural heritages.

The project is bringing professional dance artists from The Republic of the Imagination to work at the Memo with 15 adults aged 60+ and 15 primary school children who will be supported by their teachers over 10 weeks.

During the workshops the participants will explore mindfulness and dance in what we aim to be a really relaxed and enjoyable setting.

The sessions will take place in the Memo Arts Centre on Tuesdays 10am to 12pm from October 8 to December 3.

The final session will involve a sharing of the work created.

Participants don’t need to have any dance experience, just an open mind and a willingness to try new things.

Volunteers and participation coordinator at the Memo, Megan Merrett shared her enthusiasm for the project.

She said: “This is a great opportunity for two very different generations in our community to come together to share, learn mindfulness techniques, explore dance, be creative, and learn from each other through the arts, we can’t wait to see what happens.”

The Mixer project has received seed funding from Surf the Wave, is a partnership with TROTI, and is produced and managed by the Memo Arts Centre.

To sign up to the Mixer Project, the Memo is inviting people to call 01446 400111, visit the Memo Arts Centre, Gladstone Road, or log onto memoartscentre.co.uk/ourprojects/intergenerational-dance
