A micropub in Bexley has today lent its full support to all staff of the London Fire Brigade in the wake of the Grenfell fire report released on Wednesday.

The Kentish Belle on Pickford Road will be offering a discount between now and New Year's Day to anyone who can prove they work for LFB.

Landlord and Owner, Nicholas Hair, said “Whatever your politics, whoever is in power in councils or in Central Government, the reality is that blaming the LFB is just the wrong thing to do.

"They were dealing with an unprecedented tragedy and as some of our customers were first responders to the scene, it is hard to imagine they would have given any less than 110% to the cause of saving life.”

Nicholas, who in a previous career raised more than £6,500 for the original appeal the week after the fire, is keen to ensure that all London Fire Brigade staff are recognised for their efforts both before, during and after Grenfell; including in day-to-day life.

He continued: "Fire Brigade staff, whether those who respond to fires, administrators, call centre staff and more have had to deal with station closures, public sector pay freezes and are, based on what you hear from firefighters we count as valued customers, demoralised.

“We are therefore, until New Year’s Day, giving every active London Fire Brigade employee 10 per cent off all of our drinks and other bits. As Christmas is coming, we are throwing open the doors to LFB’s staff and want them to know we value them and count them all as heroes.”

LFB staff should bring ID to confirm their status as a current employee.

There are no restrictions to this except it will not be allowed in tandem with other discounts such as beer take-outs.

The owner of the pub posted the news on Facebook today and it has gone viral with 5,827 shares have been seen on this.

The Kentish Belle Facebook's confirming the offer and support to LFB staff now has a post reach of upwards of 4,700 already - with more shares all the time.
