GEORGE Street Nursery teacher Sonja Goss was among the winners at the South Wales Argus Education and Schools Awards.
The evening saw more than 300 people from the education sector gather at the Celtic Manor Resort to celebrate their achievements over the past 12 months.
Mrs Goss was selected as the winner in the Early Years Education Award.
She was commended by the judges for being extremely caring and thoughtful, and placing the children’s well-being at the heart of everything she does.

That wasn't the only accolade for George Street Nursery, as it was nominated alongside Llanyrafon Primary School for the Above and Beyond Award for its wrap-around service, although the award went to Bassaleg School's Terri Booth.
Nominated alongside Mrs Goss for the Early Years Education Award was Caroline Baker, from Dosbarth Pebble Nursery in Cwmffrwdoer.
As part of Mrs Baker's nomination, one parent said: "Mrs Baker's teaching is magical - her pupils don't know they're learning. All the other staff in the nursery are in awe of her and learn so much from her."
St Alban's RC High School were among the finalists in the Secondary School of the Year Award.
The school, based in Pontypool, was commended as a "safe and enjoyable place," and it was praised for its healthy eating and litter picking projects.
St Martin's High School in Caerphilly were the winners of that award.
