A MAN is being sought by police after he stole money from a woman's purse after asking her for spare parking change.

Wiltshire Police says the incident occurred at around 12.30pm on Saturday in the Maltings car park.

The victim, a woman in her 60s, had parked her car when she was approached by a man who asked her for change for the parking machine.

While she was trying to help him the suspect sneakily stole a quantity of money from her purse.

He is described as olive skinned, around 6ft tall, in his late 30s or early 40s, average build and well-dressed. He had a moustache.

The victim also felt that he was pretending he could not speak English very well.

Sergeant Andrea Huntley, from Wiltshire Police, said: “We are not only appealing for witnesses but are also warning members of the public to be aware of this scam, so they can take steps to avoid falling victim to this type of crime.

“If you were in the car park over the weekend and either saw this man or if you believe you may have been targeted in the same way, then please call us.”
