Torfaen Museum has partially re-opened on limited hours following some of the relaxations of government rules.

But the museum needs the help of the public to ensure it can remain open and able to cover the running costs and continue to provide the services that make it a popular place to go.

Mr Lyndon Bishop, honorary treasurer and company secretary of Torfaen Museum Trust, said: “Staff will be available for Trust members to call and pay for membership, shop for gifts, books, vintage china and collectables and to view our cafe art show in the tearoom (though the tearoom cannot be serving).

“We are hoping (subject to government guidelines and regulations) to re-open all the museum galleries and our tearoom for takeaway cups (only) from Tuesday, August 11. Subject, of course, to social distancing and new health and safety measures.”

Like many other community establishments the Museum Trust needs to fundraise urgently as they have had operating expenses during lockdown with two staff needed on site “monitoring and maintaining the building and the important Torfaen Borough collections whilst the country was in lockdown and been unable to ‘furlough’ them - so we have still had expenses going out but little income whilst we have been (and are) closed.”

Help raise funds for the museum with a Painting Raffle, from August 11. £5 per ticket will give you the opportunity to win one of four fabulous paintings by local artists: Jill Hobbs, Val Stewart, Joanne Price & Angela Palmer.

Tickets can be bought at in person, via post, email or bytelephone: TorfaenMuseum@outlook.com or call 01495 752036.
