TEACHER Eric Salter taught chemistry and maths at Abersychan School throughout the 1960s until 1970, so you would now be aged over 60 to remember him as your teacher (but the Museum would love to hear from you if you do).

Born in Old Cwmbran in 1922, Mr Salter won a scholarship to West Mon School during the 1930s and he travelled there by steam train from Cwmbran.

He went on to Cardiff University during the Second World War and worked as an industrial chemist in Newport in the 1940s and 1950s.

He always had very fond memories of Abersychan staff and pupils who were like a second family to him.

The photographs were sent to Torfaen Museum as part the ‘Torfaen School Memories’ Project by Mrs I Hill, Eric Salter’s daughter.
