SIXTEEN swimmers from Torfaen Dolphins have been called up to the Swim Wales squad for the coming season.

The swimmers have been selected for the Welsh National Elite Development, Para Senior Elite, Youth Development, Para Youth Development, Skills Development and Para Performance Centre squads.

Among those to be selected are Alex Rosser, who represented Wales in the Men’s S14 200m Freestyle Final in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia, Dylan Broome who last year was selected to the UK Sport World Class Podium Potential (WCPP) programme, and Seren Leconte and Meghan Willis – who is also a water safety ambassador – are both in the British para swimming academy.

Head coach Ian Rosser said: “In what has been a very difficult year I am really proud to see a record number of Torfaen swimmers selected for the various Welsh Squads, that is a reflection of the hard work of the coaching and management team and the great application by the swimmers.

“The fact we have five swimmers at various levels on the Welsh Swimming Para programme shows that our stance on integrating these athletes as much as possible into the mainstream programme is working and should continue to do so.

“Our aim must be to try and place more Swimmers in the National Elite Development over coming years to ensure our progression as a club continues. This will not be easy, but I do think it is achievable based on the structure we have and the unwavering support we receive from our partners at Torfaen Leisure Trust.

“Never has this been more evident than now as they have worked tirelessly to ensure our swimmers can continue to train in the very challenging environment. I really do thank them for that.”

Paul McRae, chairman of Torfaen Dolphins, said: “We’re very proud of the commitment, determination and passion for the sport that has been shown in the Swim Wales selection.

“To anyone who did not make it this year please keep pushing forward and working hard, I’m sure you can realise your potential.”
