THE couple in the canoe on the River Wye at Monmouth in last week’s photograph probably hired their boat from the Waterman’s Arms Inn, the pub seen in this photograph curving round the corner by the Wye Bridge.
On the front of the building T Fuller advertised his Pleasure Boat business.
The inn was demolished for the extension to Monmouth School in the 1890s.
The construction of the A40 in the early 1960s swept away the buildings on the other side of Wyebridge Street.
