A DOCTOR’s surgery had to cancel their flu jab clinic last weekend – because they did not receive their delivery.

A notice was put outside Wellspring Medical Centre in Risca and was put on their Facebook page that the scheduled flu clinic for the over 65s on Saturday, September 18, was cancelled and had to be rearranged for Saturday, October 9.

The reason for the cancellation was a disruption with the delivery of the vaccine. It is part of a national issue with deliveries that have affected a number of areas including supermarkets and online orders.

In a post on their Facebook page, staff said: “Due to the disruption with the delivery of the over 65s flu vaccine, our clinic on 18th September is being rescheduled to Saturday 9th October. If you have booked a flu appointment for 18th September, our staff will be contacting you to rearrange the appointment. Please contact us to rearrange the appointment if you wish to do so.

“We apologise for the inconvenience, but this is a national issue due to unforeseen road freight challenges.”

People receiving their Covid-19 booster jabs are also being advised by the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board to not cancel their flu jabs as they will not be available at the Covid-19 booster clinics - despite being advertised on appointment letters.

When a number of people in the first nine priority groups received their Covid-19 booster vaccination appointment, they were told that they could also get the flu jab at the same time. However, a text from Aneurin Bevan University Health Board sent to a number of people who's jabs were due to be held tomorrow (September 23) has advised that this will not be happening and they will only be receiving their Covid-19 booster jab.

A Welsh Government spokeswoman said: “Flu vaccinations have begun across Wales and additional stock is being delivered this week.”
