New or existing small businesses can apply for grants from Newport City Council’s business development fund.
The fund, created in 2015/16, has had a positive impact on the economy and last year supported the opening or expansion of a number of diverse, independent businesses.
As well as helping new and expanding businesses, it has also contributed to the provision of advice, support and training.
This year £60,000 was set aside to assist businesses with a particular focus on the city centre.
Councillor Jane Mudd, cabinet member for regeneration and housing, said; “I’m delighted that we are giving financial support to new and growing businesses in Newport. We have already helped some fantastic, independent ventures and I look forward to seeing more enterprises taking off this year with our assistance.”
Businesses can apply for grants to a maximum of £3,000 in the city centre and to £1,500 for the rest of the city.
Funding can be used towards the rent for new, larger or additional floor space, plant and equipment, ICT equipment, non-statutory training or professional fees. It must be linked to the creation of at least one full-time job.
