Chepstow firsts skipper Jason Dobbie was left rueing the number of extras given away as Chepstow CC crashed out of the John Macey KO Cup to local rivals Sudbrook CC.

In the only match to survive the weather, Friday's T20 match saw Chepstow score 112 for nine wickets in their allotted overs.

"We were about 20 runs short, but we should have been able to defend that total," said Dobbie.

"We bowled far too many extras and varied line and length which made setting a field near impossible. We also lost wickets at the wrong times."

Chepstow's extras column showed 12 wides, two no-balls and three byes, 17 extras which helped Sudbrook to a four-wicket victory, passing their target with five deliveries remaining.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat on a track that had seen a lot of rain but was undeniably playable.

Early wickets fell as Dobbie lost partners on a fairly regular basis. David Bennett falling for five, Tuhin Gavand following suit with 14 and David Monk being trapped leg before by Lewis Morgan (4-0-13-3) for the addition of just one run.

Dobbie top-scored with 24 including three boundaries but when he departed caught by Greg Shaw off Morgan, he had contributed over half of his side's 45 total.

Luke Watson offered stubborn resistance, scoring 22 before being caught by Jonathan Lewis off the bowling of R Pescod (4-0-25-3) and although Rhodri Fawsitt weighed in with 12 runs, the general feeling was that Chepstow were at least 20 runs short of competitive total.

And so it proved despite Fawsitt picking up opener Matthew Kinchin for 11 and Dobbie trapping Matthew Spencer leg before on 13.

Ross Lewis found the boundary three times in his 22 total before being snapped up by Dobbie to give David Monk his only wicket.

Lewis Morgan (9) was run-out by Fawsitt and Greg Shaw (13) was stumped by Bryan Dickinson to give Malith Madurasinghe the first of his two wickets but Jonathan Lewis (25 no) steered Sudbrook to victory.

Now Chepstow's skipper is looking forward to getting back in league action - weather permitting!
