CHEPSTOW RFC are raising funds for the charity Shine Cymru as part of their 150th anniversary celebrations.

The club are holding a dinner to kick-off the celebrations on Saturday, January 26 with former Newport full-back Phil Steele, now BBC Scrum V's pitchside reporter.

Chepstow have decided to raise funds and awareness for the spina bifida and hydrocephalus charity and would welcome donations for the raffle and auction plus sponsors for the event.

Club spokesman Andrew Morris said: "Chepstow Rugby Club has been at the heart of the community for 150 years and many players who have worn the jersey have gone on to play at a higher level for clubs such as Ebbw Vale, Cardiff, Newport and Pontypool. Some have gone further and represented Wales.

"As part of our anniversary celebrations we have chosen to support the charity Shine Cymru."

"My niece, Sara, is affected by spina bifida and having seen the great support the charity provides to her and the family we as a club decided to give something back," he continued.

"We will be hosting events to raise funds for the charity during the season and have leaflets and posters around the club with details of the charity and how to contact them. It's not just about fundraising, it's about raising awareness too."

Tickets for the pre-Six Nations dinner, which features drinks on arrival, a three-course meal a charity auction and raffle, cost £40 and can be bought from the bar at the club.
