CHEPSTOW Boxing Club held its annual presentation evening ahead of their first boxing show of the year on Saturday, writes Bob Cypher.

Pat Mullane was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award to mark his remarkable season in which he earned a Welsh call-up and international honours.

Two of the club’s youngsters, brothers Cai and Kayd Dean, were in action at a show in Bristol last weekend and, although neither won, head coach Steve Woods was encouraged by their performances.

“Each year we add one name to the Terry Dymock belt," he said.

“Terry was the club’s founder who passed away four years ago.

“I had the belt made then in his memory. This year the name added was Kayd Dean."

Other awards were presented to Cai Dean (best minor), Gussy Cash (best schools), Pat Mullane (best junior), Patrick Larkin (best youth) and Aiden Hampsey (best elite).

Woods added: “Cai’s bout was a rematch and there was a massive improvement from the first time he boxed his opponent and the decision was a lot closer.

"Kayd boxed a lad from Birmingham club Kings Heath ABC in a very close-fought contest.

“We need to take these tough bouts to keep on progressing and we are all looking forward to our home show on Saturday where Cai Dean is one of our boxers due to box. I’m still looking for a suitable opponent for Kayd.”

Chepstow’s show is at the Severn Bridge Club in Bulwark on Friday. Doors open at 7pm and the first bout is scheduled for 8pm. Admission is £10.
