Chepstow CC (170-2) beat Cardiff Gymkhana (166 all out) by eight wickets

A WEEK after taking five wickets, Mitchell Harris went one better to destroy the visitors, writes Bob Cypher.

Harris struck after Chepstow skipper Jason Dobbie had removed opposite number Abul Hasnal for 12 runs.

The score stood at 110-1 when Harris had Saqib Ali (39) caught behind by Ricki Sahabdeen, followed by Sam Hope-Bell’s catch to send Mohammad Salman (52) back to the pavilion.

The next three wickets fell cheaply thanks to a run-out by Malith Madurasinghe, Harris’ third scalp and Lewys Jones’ first of two wickets.

Once he had Sree Reddivan caught by Dave Bennett for 11 runs, Harris mopped up the tail to leave Gymkhana all out in the 42nd over, posting impressive figures of 6-28 with two maidens in his 10 overs.

In reply, Dobbie (33) gave Chepstow a good start before Harris (53 not out) and Carwyn James (59 not out) saw the home side reach the target with one delivery short of 20 overs left.

Skipper Dobbie was delighted with his men’s performance.

“It was a good display with bat and ball and great to see an enthusiastic Mitch Harris back in the team with a stunning all round performance,” he said later.

“Carwyn James played a steady knock to guide us home with an unbeaten 122-run partnership with Mitch.”

This Saturday Chepstow 1sts are home to Croesyceiliog who were put to the sword in a 368 run-fest at Sudbrook last Saturday.
