Usk 1sts (111-0) beat Sudbrook 1sts (110 all out) by 10 wickets

SUDBROOK Firsts were brought crashing down to earth with a heavy defeat at the weekend, writes Bob Cypher.

Mika Ekstrom was the main architect of their downfall, taking two wickets for 10 runs, including two maidens in seven overs.

Ekstrom struck early having Ross Lewis caught by Dougie Spencer for just seven runs, and then caught Matt Spencer (12) to give Jonathan Price his first of two victims.

Five of the following batsmen fell for single-figure totals with only Kel Stevens (28), Scott O’Leary (11), skipper Jamie Watkins (12) and Ryan Hudson (12 not out) offering any resistance as the innings ended in the 36th over.

Usk’s openers Elliott Doyle (46 not out) and Neil Perrett (56 not out) did their job in 18 overs.

After the game Sudbrook skipper Watkins said lack of application was the key problem.

“We didn’t apply ourselves today from ball one,” he said.

“We made it extremely easy for Usk to pick up wickets regularly by playing loose shots.

“But we will use this heavy defeat as a learning curve, train hard and look to bounce back when we host Brecon on Saturday.”
