PONTYPOOL winger Lloyd Lewis will make his Wales sevens return in this weekend's Grand Prix Series tournament in Moscow, writes Chris Kirwan.

The 22-year-old speedster from Croesyceiliog, who signed for Pooler after being released by the Dragons academy is part of a 12-strong squad boasting plenty of World Rugby Sevens Series experience.

Playmaker Ethan Davies, from Pontypool, and wing George Gasson, who was let go by the Rodney Parade region at the end of the season, are also included after being Wales regulars this season.

Lewis, who crossed 14 times in 17 games for WRU National Championship winners Pooler, returns to the fold after playing 28 World Series fixtures for the national side, scoring seven tries.

Head coach Richie Pugh said: "It's been good having Lloyd coming back in with his pace and finishing ability.

"He's matured over the course of his year away and understood what an opportunity it is here with sevens. Now he's embracing the new challenge of filtering back into the squad."

Wales have been drawn with Portugal, Germany and Poland and travel with a more experienced squad than last year, when they won the Challenge Trophy in Moscow.

Pugh, who takes his squad to the leg in Lodz, Poland next month, said: "We're coming off the back of a World Series season that was highly pressurised, whereas this tournament offers us an opportunity to be a bit more relaxed.

"We've given the boys a licence to express themselves. If anything, the pressure is on the other teams who are gunning for Olympic qualifier rankings.

"This will be an in-out job for us: arriving on Friday, playing Saturday and Sunday, then home on Monday.

"I want the boys to enjoy it after a mentally exhausting year."
