DRAGONS trio Rio Dyer, Joe Goodchild and Tom Hoppe featured in Wales Sevens’ first tournament under new head coach Darren Edwards.

The former Rodney Parade boss has taken over from Richie Pugh and put his charges through their paces at the Elche tournament in Spain ahead of the World Rugby Sevens Series, which kicks off in Dubai on the first weekend of December.

Wales won four of six matches in Alicante with young prospects joined by some experience in the shape of Luke Treharne and Ben Roach, who returned to the Dragons earlier this season to play in the Celtic Cup.

“It was a good first challenge for us as a new team,” said Treharne. “There are lots of positives to take away and some work-ons before Dubai.”

“It was a really good opportunity for Darren as a new coach. He’s been able to set the foundations for us as a team, which is crucial with an intense season on the horizon where tournaments come thick and fast.”
