NEWPORT will toast the 50th anniversary of their victory against South Africa at a special dinner at the end of the month.

The Black and Ambers, winners of the 1968/69 Anglo-Welsh championship, beat the Springboks 11-6 at Rodney Parade on November 12, 1969.

Allan Skirving and Dai Cornwall scored tries while captain John Anthony kicked five points as Newport matched the feat of the 1912 side in triumphing against the South Africans.

Springboks great Tom Bedford will be guest of honour at a celebration dinner at Rougemont School on Friday, November 29 and former Newport fly-half Keith James, who was inducted into the club's hall of fame last year, will be master of ceremonies.

Players will share their memories of the victory and highlights of the game will be shown.

Tables of eight are available, as are individual places at £40 per person. Contact Kev Jarvis for information at commercial@newportrfc.co.uk
