OLLIE Griffiths and Sam Davies will play for Wales for the first time in two years after being selected on the bench for the clash with the Barbarians.

Back row forward Griffiths and fly-half Davies last played international rugby on the summer tour in 2017.

Griffiths won his first cap against Tonga at Eden Park two years ago while Davies, who moved to Rodney Parade from the Ospreys in the summer, won the last of his eight caps against Samoa in Apia.

They are named on the bench for the uncapped fixture against the Baa Baas and are joined on the bench by Dragons teammates Elliot Dee and Leon Brown.

World Cup star Aaron Wainwright is the sole Dragon in the starting line-up, with wing Ashton Hewitt, flanker Taine Basham and number eight Ross Moriarty missing out on Wayne Pivac's first game at the helm.

Justin Tipuric will captain the side with Scarlets wing Johnny McNicholl making his first appearance for Wales.

All of the forwards featured at the World Cup with Tipuric named in a back-row alongside Aaron Shingler and Wainwright. Jake Ball and Adam Beard feature in the second-row with Wyn Jones, Ken Owens and Dillon Lewis named in the front-row.

Cardiff Blues half-backs Tomos Williams and Jarrod Evans are named together with Hadleigh Parkes and Owen Watkin partnering in midfield.

Uncapped McNicholl will line-up in a back three alongside Josh Adams and Leigh Halfpenny.

“This week has been hugely exciting and hugely important for us as a group,” said Pivac.

“It has been an opportunity for us as a new squad and management to get together and to set the scene for what the future holds.

“There has been quite a lot of learnings for the squad this week, looking at what we are trying to do and us providing some clarity but we have also stressed the enjoyment factor of being together for the first time and the excitement of not only this weekend but the future.”

The game is the second part of a double-header after Wales Women take on the Barbarians.
