NEWBRIDGE will have home advantage when they go up against defending champions Brecon in the quarter-finals Specsavers National Plate.

'Bridge have responded well to their relegation from the WRU National Championship and sit on top of Specsavers National One East.

The Pigs have won eight and drawn one to lead the way, a point ahead of Brecon, who have a game in hand.

The duo will clash in the last eight of the Plate and it will be a tense tussle if the clash at the Welfare Ground is anything to go by – the spoils were shared 16-16.

Elsewhere in the Plate, two-time winners Penallta are still on course for what would be a fourth final at the home of Welsh rugby. They face Felinfoel in the quarters.

Rhydyfelin's visit to Treorchy will be a battle of the two sides at the top of Division One East Central and each has suffered just the one defeat this season.

The final Plate quarter-final will see Birchgrove welcome Glynneath with the ties to be played on the weekend of January 11.

The other Gwent involvement in the bid to make finals day at Principality Stadium sees Championship leaders Pontypool host Carmarthen Quins of the Premiership in the last eight of the cup on January 25.
