IF you enjoy a day at the races and have often thought about buying a share in a racehorse, there is an opportunity to join the Chepstow and Ffos Las Racing Club.

The six-year-old hurdler Baboin will be trained for the club by Vale of Glamorgan-based Tim Vaughan. The horse was formerly trained by Joseph O’Brien in Ireland where he won once and was placed on four other occasions.

Club membership for six months is £495 and is aimed at anyone who would like to experience the thrill of racehorse ownership at a competitive introductory price.

The package includes: Stable visits and regular updates by e-mail, video and phone; Owners’ badges when the horse runs (maybe subject to a ballot if over-subscribed); Opportunity to buy Premier Enclosure badges at a discount if unsuccessful in the ballot; Prize money refund if there is a surplus after all expenses incurred from training and operating the club; Updates on the Chepstow and Ffos Las websites; Four complimentary entry tickets to either Chepstow or Ffos Las Racecourses in 2020.

The fee also includes all expenses incurred by the trainer and running of the horse for six months, there are no other costs involved.

Martin Higgs, Racing Club manager, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for racing fans from Wales or further afield who would like to dip their toe into racehorse ownership and enjoy being part of a club with all the associated benefits.”

Tim Vaughan said: "I am delighted to be training a horse for the Chepstow and Ffos Las Racing Club. It’s important to get more people involved in racehorse ownership so the sport continues to thrive and it promises to be fun and exciting.”

There is a stable visit this Friday, 10th January. To book a place or get further information, contact Martin Higgs on 07831 752056, or e-mail: martinhiggsracing@gmail.com.

There are two remaining meetings at Chepstow this month on Friday, 17th and Friday, 31st January, with advance admission just £12. Our first feature fixture is Six Nations Race Day on Saturday, 22nd February, when early bird tickets are only £10. We’ll be showing the Wales v France Six Nations game as well as seven jump races.

Hospitality and restaurant packages are now on sale for the James Arthur Race Night on Saturday, 6th June. Please call the commercial team on 01291 622260 for further information.

Finally, Welsh racing has received a massive publicity boost following the victory of Potters Corner in the £150,000 Coral Welsh Grand National. It’s the first time a Welsh-trained horse has won the prestigious race since 1965 and it was brilliant to see an attendance in excess of 9,000 there to witness it. Congratulations to everyone connected with this fabulous horse.
