WALES are set to unleash a centre from Saracens in the Six Nations but another midfield man from Allianz Park is starting to make an impact at the Dragons.

Tom Griffiths headed to Rodney Parade from the English and European champions last summer in search of regular rugby.

The 24-year-old found his route to the XV at Sarries, who have since been condemned to relegation because of salary cap infringements, blocked by the likes of Brad Barritt, Alex Lozowski, Duncan Taylor and recent Wales call-up Nick Tompkins.

Griffiths, who is from Gloucester with a father from Llanelli, missed the start of the season after an operation on an existing ankle injury and made his Dragons debut in November.

His PRO14 debut came in the derby win against the Ospreys at the start of the year and he kept his place for the European clashes against Castres and Enisei-STM.

Backs coach Barry Maddocks believes the Dragons are starting to see the best of the 6ft 2ins, 15st back.

"We knew about Tom's ability from playing at Saracens and being around that squad," said Maddocks.

"He's been unlucky with injury and has been in and out of the side a couple of times but just needs a run of games because he is a talented player.

"Tom has an eye for a gap, is a good distributor and is a link player. We are hoping to see more from him over the next couple of rounds in the PRO14 and getting games is a big thing because the talent is obviously there."

Griffiths showed his footballing ability with a late switch from 12 to 13 in Castres when Adam Warren's severe nose bleed led to Jack Dixon's inclusion.

"He played a little bit at 13 at Saracens but that late switch was a challenge – he hadn't run any of the plays there all week because nobody expected that unfortunate incident with Adam.

"All of a sudden there was Jack and Tom playing 12 and 13 but they did well. It's really good to have fit centres and options."

All of Griffiths' six appearances have been as a starter, Warren and Dixon have both made nine starts, Tyler Morgan has been in the XV seven times and Connor Edwards' sole start came at Leinster.
