Fishwick Cup quarter final

THORNWELL Red & White B’s skipper Dan Williams led his men to an extra-time victory at Raglan on Saturday, writes Bob Cypher.

In what was described as a really good game, Thornwell took an early lead through Harry Pope, a lead they held until the 65th minute.

The visitors pressed forward and skipper Dan Williams restored the lead with a header from a Terry Woodward corner - his second goal in two games since taking the captain’s armband.

But Raglan pushed forward from the restart and equalised again to take the match into extra time.

Alex Schroepfer made an impact with two close range finishes to put Thornwell in the driving seat and, as the action swung from end to end, Raglan reduced the deficit 10 minutes from the end.

“We held on to win a great game in which both teams were fully committed,” Woodward said later.

“Our manager Keith Tipper gave man of the match to Luke Johnson but it really could have been given to a number of players.

“It was the best team performance we’ve had for a while, with everyone working hard for the win!”

Also in the hat are Caldicot Town, who beat Tintern Abbey 4-1 on the 3G pitch thanks to goals from Division 2’s leading scorer Courtney Davies (3) and Callum Hodges.

Meanwhile, Chepstow Town were 10-1 victors over Caldicot Castle B where Tom Philp (5), Matt Owen (3), Luca Goddard and Nick Owen did the damage.
