East Gwent League preview

TWO title rivals are set to clash this weekend when Thornwell Red & White A welcome Caldicot Castle A, writes Bob Cypher.

Castle currently hold second place - five points ahead of third-placed Red & White, who have three games in hand.

Both clubs have title aspirations so this clash deserves match of the week status.

To add spice to the mix, Joe O’Brien (Castle) and Wayne Duffield (Thornwell) - among others - are battling it out for personal glory with this season’s coveted Golden Boot up for grabs.

They are in good company with Luke Smith (Undy), Josh Codd (Iscoed Tafarn) and Tom Atkins (Severn Tunnel) also keen to put the award on their sideboards.

Current leaders Iscoed Tafarn are home to Sudbrook CC A, while fourth-placed Monmouth Town entertain Portskewett & Sudbrook.

Severn Tunnel visit Undy Athletic with Rockfield Rovers having a week off.

In Division 2, leaders Caldicot Town visit Caldicot Castle B and Chepstow Town welcome Port & Sud B.

Raglan entertain Sudbrook CC B fresh from their 7-1 victory over Chepstow Athletic, who will be keen to get back to winning ways at home to Tintern Abbey.

All matches kick off at the new time of 2.45pm.
