TYLER Morgan says he is relishing a fresh start after swapping the Dragons for the Scarlets.

The 24-year-old from Caerleon’s departure from Rodney Parade was confirmed on Saturday and now the outside centre’s move to Llanelli has been announced.

Morgan came through the ranks at the Dragons and after catching the eye with Newport RFC in the Premiership made his debut against his new team in 2013.

A first Guinness PRO14 appearance came against the Ospreys at Judgement Day and he went on to make 89 outings for his home region.

Morgan’s rapid rise saw him become the first uncapped player to get a national dual contract and then he featured in the 2015 World quarter-final defeat to South African, but injuries have stalled his progress.

He made 14 appearances in 2019/20 but just seven of them were as a starter with Jack Dixon and Adam Warren the preferred midfield partnership for boss Dean Ryan.

The centre, who was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago, believes a change of environment will do him the power of good.

“I am looking forward to getting started, it is a fresh start for me,” said Morgan.

“I know a lot of the boys from age-grade rugby, playing with the likes of Steff (Hughes), Eli (Ryan Elias) and Kieran Hardy and also when I was in the senior set-up learning alongside players like Rhys Patchell and Jonathan Davies.

“It is a new challenge for me, there are some great players at the Scarlets and I think the style of rugby the side play will suit my game.

“I have spoken to Dai Flanagan who I know from when I was playing with Newport, he is a quality coach and I’m excited to be working with him again and the rest of the coaching team.

“I’d also like to thank the Dragons for giving me the opportunity in professional rugby. I wish them all the success in the future.”

Morgan will be behind Lions centre Davies in the pecking order but a Test-heavy schedule should ensure plenty of game time.

Scarlets head coach Glenn Delaney said: “We are delighted to be bringing a player of Tyler’s quality on board at the Scarlets.

“He is an exciting talent and his potential has been there for all to see since he first burst onto the scene in Wales.

“He will add to the midfield options we already have at the club and we look forward to welcoming him into the group when we do get back together.”
