HE might not top the charts like Jordan Williams but Josh Lewis intends to do it his way while filling in at full-back for the Dragons.

The fly-half has started the last two Guinness PRO14 fixtures with 15 on his back while livewire Williams is sidelined with tightness in his leg and Jonah Holmes is on Wales duty.

Lewis would ideally like the 10 jersey but a place in the XV will do for the 28-year-old from Aberdare after he sat out the entire 2019/20 campaign because of a serious knee injury suffered in pre-season.

He will start at full-back against Glasgow at Scotstoun Stadium with the intention of repeating his display from Treviso last weekend.

The Dragons earned a rare away win at Benetton thanks to a mature performance with the half-backs and Lewis helping them to play in the right areas.

Williams has played just once in the PRO14 this season when he scored a brace against Zebre, made four clean breaks, ran for 89 metres and carried seven times. He kicked just twice.

In two games Lewis is yet to make a clean break in 10 carries, has racked up 42 metres and has put boot to ball 13 times.

The playmaker, whose exploits for Ebbw Vale earned moves to the Scarlets and Bath, is keen to show there is more to his attacking game but won't counter like side-stepping Williams.

"I'm not as fast as him and I haven't got his feet! We talked about our kicking game last week and that it had to be spot on really against Benetton," said Lewis.

"We talked about turning them and Dean (Ryan, director of rugby) just hammered that home.

"Obviously, I feel like I have a good boot on me just to stay in the kicking battles but when it is ready to come out of that then I can offer some attacking threat as well. Not as good as Jordan probably but I give it a good go!"

Lewis' return to action will put the pressure on Sam Davies, who has struggled from the tee so far this season with a success rate of just 56 per cent, but for now the management are doubling up on their kicking options.

That reflects a trend in rugby at the moment with teams wary of running into trouble inside their own territory.

Lewis will lead the chase in Glasgow this evening to try and avoid being pinned in their half by a Warriors side that will be well-drilled by Danny Wilson, who had an eye for detail when forwards coach at the Dragons.

"We just have to stick in there, stay in the kicking battle and then obviously when the time is right to come out of that and go on the attack," said Lewis.

"There are a lot of kicks going on in the game now and field position is massive, so if we can get a win in the kicking battle then we will be happy with that.

"I know fans and that whinge about kicking but it is a massive part of the game now, getting that field position and territory."

The Dragons head north buoyed by their 26-19 win in Treviso, which was agonisingly close to being a bonus-point success only for a fourth try to be chalked off at the death.

"We are not known for really winning on the road so it was great to get that nice away win," said Lewis, who was rewarded with a two-year contract extension last season despite being injured.

"Confidence in the camp now is pretty high after that so hopefully we can win on the road again.

"We train on a plastic pitch so we know what's coming; it will be a fast old game but they have changed their tactics in more recent times.

"They used to run everything but they have more of a kicking strategy now as well. We know what's coming from them so we have get our tactics right and have our own house in order."
