NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn has confirmed that defender Mickey Demetriou could be ruled out for up to 14 weeks with a broken fibula bone.

Demetriou sustained the injury during the first half of Saturday's 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle at Rodney Parade.

The centre-back has already had one operation and could be sidelined until Christmas.

“Mickey has had an operation,” explained Flynn. “He broke his fibula so he’s had a plate put in.

“The operation was very successful and there’s a timeframe of between 10 and 14 weeks – that’s if everything goes right and there are no infections or setbacks – until he’s back playing.

“It’s a massive setback because he’s someone who’s played every game for the last two seasons.

“It’s a huge setback and I’ll be trying my hardest to bring another one in.

"I need experience," he added. "I need to bring somebody in who has played in the league, but that is easier said than done."

On tonight’s 0-0 draw at Walsall, the Exiles boss said: “I’m more pleased by that point than I was with Saturday’s win.

“I know it sounds stupid, but I’ve got so many players missing.

“Joss Labadie had to come off – he couldn’t sprint after the first five minutes – and Robbie Willmott was struggling.

“I’ve just got too many injuries.”
