NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn hopes to finally bring an end to the Joe Ledley transfer saga next week.

Ledley, who was first linked with a move to Rodney Parade in October last year, is a free agent following the end of his short-term deal at Championship club Charlton Athletic.

The former Wales international has been training with County for the past few weeks and has watched Michael Flynn’s men in action on more than one occasion.

But no deal has so far been agreed to make him an Exiles player and the manager now says he wants the issue sorted as soon as possible.

“I’ll speak to him next week and we’ll get answer one way or another,” said Flynn.

“I want to get it sorted. It’s dragging on now and the season is coming towards an end.

“And I’ve got a squad here and you’ve got to be fair to everyone.

“We’ve had good conversations. He’s been in training with us, he’s fitted in well with the boys and he’s enjoying it.

“But it’s got to be right both ends and we’ll find out next week, hopefully. I’d like to know next week.”

Ledley continues to train with the squad ahead of tomorrow’s League Two clash with Cambridge United at Rodney Parade.

“He’s still training with us and he’s a great lad to have around the place,” added Flynn.

“The boys can learn from him so it hasn’t been a problem to wait because there’s more positives than negatives.”

Meanwhile, striker Ade Azeez could be heading out on loan to a non-league club today following his recovery from a ruptured Achilles.

“I’ll know more today,” said Flynn.

“He’s come back and he’s in very good condition. He’s always looked after himself, there’s not an ounce of fat on him.

“He works hard and he’s no trouble. He just needs to play games. I’ve had an open and honest conversation with him.

“And, fair play to him, he’s somebody who doesn’t want to just collect his wages – he wants to go and play football.

“He’s got a chance now to go out and get some confidence, by scoring goals and by proving he’s fully over his injury.

“I think, if we can get him out until the end of the season it will be a big boost for him.”
