BRIGHTON & Hove Albion boss Graham Potter has revealed that he sees a big future for former Newport County AFC loan star Ben White with the Seagulls.

White, who excelled during his time on loan with the Exiles in the 2017-2018 campaign, has earned rave reviews for his performances on loan from Brighton at Leeds United this season.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation at the heart of the Leeds defence.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men boast the best defensive record in the division and White has started every single league game for the club.

Should the Championship leaders secure promotion, it would be no surprise to see Leeds make a move to try and sign the defender on a permanent basis when the transfer window opens.

But, when asked about White recently moving into midfield to cover for when Kalvin Phillips has been absent, Seagulls boss Potter seemed to provide an insight into where he expects the youngster to be next season.

“It’s not surprised me because he’s got those type of qualities,” he said, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, when asked about White playing slightly further forward.

“He’s mobile and good on the ball and is in the hands of a very good coach in Marcelo Bielsa. Whatever he decides for Ben is fine by me.

“I’ve been aware of his progress since he was [on loan] at Newport County and I wanted to sign him when I was in charge at Swansea City.

“I’m delighted with the experience he’s had so far this season with Leeds and we’re looking forward to working with him in the future.”

Potter says he has kept in touch with White and has liked what he's seen from the defender during his Elland Road loan spell.

"I’m aware of his progress and we keep a track of that, he’s been doing well," said the Brighton manager.

"I’ve spoken with him over text to wish him well for the rest of the season.

"We’re pleased with how he’s doing there, and the stakes are obviously high with Leeds trying to get into the Premier League, but those experiences bring their own challenges and will help him in his development.

"It’s why you go on loan in many ways, he’s done really well. It’ll be fascinating to see how it goes."

White has attracted a number of potential suitors this season.

Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Leicester City are all said to be interested in signing the central defender.

Former Leeds man Noel Whelan said: “He’s got every kind of attribute you want from a centre-half in the modern game."
