SWANSEA City defender Brandon Cooper has signed for Newport County AFC on a season-long loan deal.

Cooper will join up with Michael Flynn’s men until the end of the 2020/21 season after joining from the Sky Bet Championship club, with the option of him returning to the Swans in January.

The 20-year-old made his debut for Swansea in their Carabao Cup clash against Crystal Palace in the 2018/19 campaign.

He made 12 appearances in Premier League 2 last season and also featured in the Swans’ FA Cup third round tie against Queens Park Rangers.

Cooper joined Vanarama National League side Yeovil Town for the second half of last season’s campaign, making three appearances for the Glovers before the season was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The defender has also represented Wales at under-17, 19 and 21 level, most recently featuring against Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21s on Friday.

After finalising the deal, Cooper said: “Playing out on loan with Yeovil last season was a good experience and I’m sure it will put me in good stead going into this season.

“The manager has a good record of giving youngsters opportunities, so I’m looking forward to working under him.

“This club has done well in the league and cups over the last couple of years and I want to be a part of that with them this season.”

County manager Michael Flynn added: “I’ve heard great things about Brandon from Steve Cooper, so I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to get him in before the first league fixture.

“I’ve been able to watch him in action and he’s a very talented defender with a bright future ahead of him.

“He’ll be a great addition to this club and I’m looking forward to watching him develop with us.”

Cooper is just the latest player to sign for the Exiles this transfer window.

Veteran striker Kevin Ellison, put pen to paper on a one year deal at the end of last week.

Ellison's signature was shortly preceded by that of Scott Twine.

The forward will also be playing for County on a season-long loan after signing from Swindon Town last week.

He made six appearances for Richie Wellens' side in their Sky Bet League Two campaign last season, playing a part in their promotion to Sky Bet League One.

The signing of Twine came within a short space of time from the announcement that Liam Shephard would join the Exiles until at least the summer of 2021.

This followed his successful trial period with the club.
