Newport sign Aaron Lewis and Jamie Proctor on loan

Exiles boss Michael Flynn had stated his aim to make a pair of signings but got more than he had hoped for after making Blackpool’s Jamie Devitt his first recruit.

County have signed 22-year-old Lewis from Lincoln until January 2 to push Liam Shephard down the right flank.

The former Swansea defender was recently on Wales Under-21s duty with Brandon Cooper and Lewis Collins in Belgium.

“I know a few of the lads and they’ve told me all about the club and the environment,” he said.

“Hopefully I can come and impress the manager enough to get some games and show people what I can do.”

The void left by Ryan Taylor’s injury has been filled by Proctor, who arrives from Rotherham until January 17 in a bid for a run of games after recent misfortune.

The 28-year-old snapped his cruciate ligament in 2017 and then endured a hip problem that needed two operations.

Last season he played for Scunthorpe on loan in the first half of the campaign – and started at Rodney Parade – before heading for Fylde in the National League.

“I have come across the manager before and love the way that he sets up his teams,” said Proctor.

“Everyone I have spoken to has had nothing but great words to say about the staff, players and the club as a whole.

“I want to help the team continue their good start they have had and contribute as much as I can during my time here.”

Flynn is thrilled to have more options at his disposal as County bid to build on their promising start to the season that sees them sit third ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Tranmere.

“Jamie has a lot of experience in the Football League and he will provide us with another quality option in the attacking department. He’s coming to us from a Championship club, so obviously it’s a big coup for us,” he said.

“Aaron is a player who I have kept an eye on over the last few seasons and I feel he is a player who has a bright future ahead of him. He’s also a Welsh lad so this deal ticks a lot of boxes.

“They will both make the squad a lot stronger, particularly with nine games in three weeks coming up.

“Hopefully they can help us build on our good start to the season because they both showed a strong desire to join the club.

"I want to thank Lincoln and Rotherham for helping us get these deals over the line.”

It completes a busy summer for the Exiles, who secured the swift return of Scot Bennett and signed David Longe-King (St Albans), Taylor (Plymouth), Shephard (Forest Green) and Kevin Ellison (Morecambe).

Saikou Janneh (Bristol City), Scott Twine (Swindon), Cooper (Swansea) and Bradley Webb (Bristol City) joined on loan.
