NEWPORT County AFC striker Padraig Amond will have the chance to make FA Cup history yet again this season.

Should County's number nine score in the third round of this season's competition, he will become the highest scoring Irishman in FA Cup history.

Amond currently sits tied for first place in the all-time Irish scorers league table.

He is alongside icons of the Irish national side in Robbie Keane (Spurs, Liverpool) and Jon Walters (Stoke City), both of Premier League fame, on 12 goals in the competition.

The majority of Amond's goals (10) have come for County, with the other two having been scored during his spell at Grimsby Town back in 2015/16.

Amond is obviously no stranger to scoring on the big stage either, with a goal in every single round of County's headline-making cup run during the 2018/19 season.

Goals against sides sich as Leicester City, Middlesbrough and star-studded Manchester City propelled the Exiles all the way to the fifth round.

Such was his success, and his cult status back home in Ireland, that a pub in his home town of Carlow began offering free drinks to everyone in the bar if he scored in the FA Cup.

The patrons of Tully’s Bar were well looked after that season.

County will have to wait until later this evening to find out which defence Amond will have to breach in order to claim his record-breaking status.

The third round draw takes place at 7pm live on BBC One.
