MANAGER Michael Flynn has plenty of selection headaches for Newport County AFC's League Two clash with Morecambe after revealing he has a full squad to pick from.

Every single member of the Exiles’ roster is in training ahead of the clash with the Shrimpers with the long-term injured list now empty.

Striker Ryan Taylor is in the mix for his first action since the start of October after recovering from a hamstring issue, defender David Longe-King is hunting a debut after a serious groin injury in pre-season and his fellow centre-back Kyle Howkins has recovered from a hamstring blow suffered in September.

“The injured players list that we have got is rubbed off and long may that continue,” said boss Flynn.

County’s strength in depth led to the club arranging a training match with Cardiff City on Wednesday with Flynn pleased with the exercise despite the Championship club running out 3-0 winners.

“We played two 35-minute halves,” he said. “They did really well for 50 minutes, we changed round at 0-0, we created some chances and should have gone 1-0 up.

“We then had a dodgy 10 minutes and lost 3-0 but it was very good. The important thing was getting game time, Cardiff needed to do the same with a few players, and it was a good workout.”

Longe-King arrived from St Albans City in the summer on a one-year deal and impressed ahead of the start of the season only to then suffer a groin injury.

The 25-year-old is keen to test himself in the Football League and Flynn liked what he saw from the athletic defender.

“I thought David was very, very good for his first game back in nearly four months,” said the manager. “He looked comfortable, he looked strong and he looked fit.

“Funnily enough it was when he went off that we conceded the goals. David is on the right path.”

Flynn has welcome selection headaches but is unlikely to make sweeping changes given the Exiles' fine start to the season that means they have a one-point lead over second-placed Cheltenham plus a game in hand.

County drew at fourth-placed Forest Green on Tuesday but will need their squad depth during a hectic period.

They face a trip to Grimsby on Tuesday followed by a clash at Leyton Orient next weekend then another midweek away game at Salford City on Tuesday, December 15.

County have eight League Two fixtures before their FA Cup tie against Brighton at Rodney Parade on the weekend of January 9.
