NEWPORT County AFC and Morecambe will head to Wembley in fine form and on the back of tremendous seasons.

Both Michael Flynn and Derek Adams would have been targeting survival first in League Two yet end the campaign with promotion in reach.

Here are key figures they will look to lead the charge to League One…

MICKEY DEMETRIOU (NEWPORT, DEFENCE)

The centre-back has been a towering presence for County, missing just one game through suspension.

Demetriou was superb in the run-in and his exploits led to him being named in stats company whoscored.com’s League Two team of the season.

Could also be an influence from set pieces at the other end.

CARLOS MENDES GOMES (MORECAMBE, MIDFIELD)

Destined for bigger things, possibly next season after being linked with host of clubs.

The 22-year-old, who came through Atletico Madrid’s youth system, made 51 appearances for the Shrimps and scored 15 league goals from the left.

Showed his pace in an impressive performance against County at Rodney Parade, scoring the equaliser, and will be a threat on the counter.

JOSH SHEEHAN (NEWPORT, MIDFIELD)

Will dictate play for the Exiles in what could turn out to be his last appearance for the club.

The Wales midfielder has thrived thanks to County’s change in style - much of their play goes through the Swansea academy graduate.

Sheehan is calm in possession, spreads play and sets the tempo.

Scored a cracker in Morecambe and is likely to see plenty of the ball against a Shrimps side that don’t mind to sit deep.

COLE STOCKTON (MORECAMBE, FORWARD)

Another Shrimps star who is in demand after a superb campaign, with Bolton said to be sniffing.

The 27-year-old has made 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 times and impressing with his link play.

It has been a superb season by a man who came through the ranks at Tranmere before having somewhat of a nomadic career.

The Scouser has hit double figures for the first time and his exploits earned the players’ player of the year award.

County’s defence will have to be on their guard.

LEWIS COLLINS (NEWPORT, FORWARD)

The others on this list can reflect on superb seasons, Collins can reflect on a superb run-in.

The 20-year-old was given a chance up front by Flynn rather than his usual role out wide.

The move paid off with Collins joining forces with Padraig Amond to set the tone from the top.

Full of energy and doesn’t give defenders time to think, while he also scored against Scunthorpe and Forest Green before setting up Nicky Maynard’s dramatic semi-final winner.

Will stretch the Shrimps on the Wembley turf.
