WITH the weather picking up this week, its the perfect time to listen to some of America’s finest hits and Johnny Cash-tribute act Bootleg Cash did not disappoint.

The group, coming all the way from as far as the breadth of South Wales rather than the climes of Arkansas, put on performance’s ranging from decent to very good of the ‘man in black’s’ large set-list.

On stage for more than two hours 30 minutes performing 31 hits, it was impressive how long the lead singer could remain in character putting on a questionable but at times convincing red-neck accent.

Visitors had to wait patiently for the main performance with the warm-up act reminding us just how good the late Mr Cash was for his 50-year old classic hits to not have dated.

Opening with Folsom Prison Blues and Hey Porter, their best songs were kept for later on, with Man in Black after the interval and Cocaine Blues towards the end. There were several June Carter double acts including the final encore of Ring of Fire.

What cannot be disputed is in their first ever performance, Bootleg Cash put the effort in; from the singer breaking the second part of the set to celebrate someone’s anniversary to the whole act meeting everyone after the show.

The drummer’s wide smile seemed to sum up the evening. For £15, it’s a great way to spend a midweek evening.
