Disgust as bags of dog mess left hanging on Pontypool tree

First published in News

A PONTYPOOL resident is concerned after spotting that a tree in the town centre had been filled with used dog waste bags.

The female resident, who would prefer not to be named, noticed that a tree, which is situated over the river next to the entrance of Riverside car park, was full of used dog waste bags.

She said: “It appears someone is picking up dog waste in plastic bags and then throwing it into this tree.”

The woman, from Pontnewynydd, and her husband noticed the tree as they use the new path that runs alongside the car park and into the town centre.

She said: “It filled up over a few weeks and had over 20 bags hanging from its branches- it looked disgusting.

“The council are trying to regenerate the town and spent money on making the area look nice and then someone does that.”

She explained that due to the recent storms, many of the bags have now ended up in the river, with some of the bags becoming caught, and still seen afloat in the water.

She added: “It beggars belief that someone would do this.”

A Torfaen Council spokesman said: “This incident is currently being investigated.

“However, we would remind all dog walkers that it is their responsibility to dispose of faeces safely. Depositing it in trees is unacceptable, and if caught will result in a fixed penalty notice.”
