Chepstow pupils learn lifesaving skills

A THOUSAND pupils at a Chepstow school will learn lifesaving skills with a first aid charity.

St John Cymru Wales originally intended to train 400 pupils at Wyedean School but has now pledged to more than double that number.

The charity’s First Aid Awareness Programme is being taught by St John trainers.

It has been funded by a legacy left by a local businessman who left the money in his will to benefit charities in the community.

Brian Ellam, head of enrichment at the school, said:“The students are really enjoying the sessions. The feedback we’ve had is that it was a great experience and they are always really pleased to receive their first aid certificates.”

“At this school we’re committed to developing the whole person. These sessions teach them the skills needed to save a life and will build their confidence to be able to deal with real-life situations.”
