THE flag was flown yesterday in Usk to show support for the armed forces.

Representatives of the armed forces, the Royal British Legion and the deputy lord lieutenant all attended the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag outside County Hall in Usk in order to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

Staff at Monmouthshire County Council gathered to celebrate the work of the armed forces and to show appreciation for the contribution that has and continues to be made by all those who serve in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.

The raising of the flag was followed by a prayer by father Mark Soady of St Mary’s Priory, Abergavenny.

People across the county will be taking part in commemorations leading up to Armed Forces Day which takes place this Saturday.

The big nation-wide event is set to raise public awareness of the contribution made to servicemen and women as well as giving people the opportunity to show their support for those in the armed forces in the community from currently serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets.
